Sometimes, when I meet a new person I give them a little gift – the Miraculous Medal

Jest to mały medalik, który można nosić na szyi.

It is a small medallion that can be worn around the neck.

Tam w 1830 r. został objawiony przez samą Najświętszą Maryję Pannę.

There, in 1830, it was revealed by Holy Mary herself.

Ukazała się siostrze zakonnej, św. Katarzynie Labouré, i pokazała jej, jak powinien wyglądać ten medalik.

She appeared to a nun, St Catherine Labouré, and showed her how this medal should look like.

Obiecała też, że każdy, kto będzie go nosił na szyi, otrzyma wiele Bożych łask.

She also promised that everyone who wears it around their neck will receive many of God's graces.

Kiedy ludzie zaczęli nosić ten medalik, rzeczywiście otrzymali szczególne błogosławieństwo, a nawet miały miejsce różne cuda, takie jak uzdrowienia i nawrócenia.

When people began to wear this medal, they in fact received a special blessing, and even various miracles, such as healings and conversions, took place.

Dlatego ludzie sami nazywali go Cudownym Medalikiem.

That's why people themselves called it the Miraculous Medal.

Teraz postaram się pokrótce wyjaśnić symbole znajdujące się na Cudownym Medaliku.

Now, I will try to briefly explain the symbols that are on the Miraculous Medal.

Na awersie jest kobieta, która stoi na ziemi i depcze węża.

On the obverse, there is a woman who stands on the ground and tramples a snake.

Ma otwarte dłonie, z których wychodzą promienie.

She has open hands from which rays come out.

Wokół niej jest napis, krótka modlitwa: „O Maryjo bez grzechu poczęta, módl się za nami, którzy się do Ciebie uciekamy”.

Around it, there is an inscription, a short prayer: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”.

Ten obraz odnosi się do pierwszych stron Biblii.

This image refers to the first pages of the Bible.

Jest tam opisany pierwszy grzech ludzi i obietnica Boża.

There, the first sin of men and the promise of God is described.

Bóg obiecał, że pewnego dnia pojawi się kobieta, której potomstwo zniszczy węża.

God promised that one day a woman would appear whose offspring would destroy the serpent.

Wąż jest oczywiście symbolem szatana, zła.

The snake, of course, is a symbol of Satan, evil.

Promienie są symbolem łask, o które Maryja prosi dla ludzi na całym świecie.

The rays are a symbol of the graces that Mary asks for people all over the world.

O tym również mówią słowa modlitwy na medaliku.

This is also what the words of the prayer on the medallion say.

Jest też mała ciekawostka.

There is also a little curiosity.

Nie widać tego na medaliku, bo jest za mały.

You can't see it on the medallion because it's too small.

Ale w wizji, którą miała siostra Katarzyna, Maryja miała piękne pierścienie na dłoniach, a promienie wychodziły z tych pierścieni.

But, in the vision that Sister Catherine saw, Mary had beautiful rings on her hands, and the rays were coming out of these rings.

Na rewersie w środku jest litera M i złączony z nią krzyż stojący na podstawie.

On the reverse, in the middle, there is the letter M and a cross connected to it standing on the base.

Poniżej dwa serca.

Below are two hearts.

A wokół niego jest 12 gwiazd.

And there are 12 stars around it.

Litera M i krzyż oznaczają Maryję, która modli się za wszystkich ludzi, za których jej Syn, Jezus, umarł na krzyżu.

The letter M and the cross stand for Mary who prays for all the people for whom her son Jesus died on the cross.

Kiedy Jezus umierał, dał nam Maryję jako naszą Matkę.

When Jesus was dying, he gave us Mary as our Mother.

Serce jest oczywiście symbolem miłości.

The heart is, of course, a symbol of love.

Serce otoczone cierniami to Serce Jezusa. Serce przebite mieczem bólu jest sercem Maryi.

The heart surrounded by thorns is the Heart of Jesus. The heart pierced by the sword of pain is Mary's heart.

Oba serca są zranione i z obu wychodzi płomień.

Both hearts are wounded and a flame comes out of both.

To nasze grzechy, nasze złe uczynki ranią te serca.

It is our sins, our evil deeds that hurt these hearts.

Ale pomimo bólu te Serca wciąż płoną miłością do nas.

But, despite the pain, these hearts still burn with love for us.

Gwiazdy wokół są symbolem Chrystusa, który jest światłością świata.

The stars around are a symbol of Christ, who is the light of the world.

Liczba 12 przypomina 12 Apostołów.

The number 12 recalls the 12 Apostles.

Apostołowie stoją u początku wspólnoty, jaką jest Kościół.

The Apostles stand at the beginning of the community that is the Church.

O 12 gwiazdach wspomina także ostatnia księga Biblii, Apokalipsa.

The 12 stars are also mentioned in the last book of the Bible, the Apocalypse.

Tam wieniec z 12 gwiazd otacza głowę kobiety walczącej ze smokiem.

There, a wreath of 12 stars surrounds the head of a woman fighting a dragon.

To pokazuje, że Cudowny Medalik ma nam przypominać o wszystkim, co czyni dla nas dobry Bóg i co jest opisane w Piśmie Świętym.

This shows that the Miraculous Medal is to remind us of everything that the good God does for us and what is described in the Holy Scriptures.
